71

Post by Culpeper »

I bought #71 as a complete unit except for the stock, hand guard, and cleaning rod and I want to shoot it. So I am going to move it into 3140's stock and fire it up. The front sight looks very short so maybe my loads will work with it. The rifling looks pretty good which is a plus.

Will give a range report when done.

I like how you say it's a "complete set" but it doesn't have the stock, hand guard and cleaning rod (ramrod). I chuckled at that one!

That's sure a low number. Are any of the parts serialized?

Geeze Culp... how DO you manage to find these low-numbered treasures? If it shoots nice, bring it to Perry and you will definitely have the oldest rifle on the line... that is unless Stretch decides to amaze us and actually bring his Trapdoor like we were talking about at last year's Nationals!

I was gonna say barreled receiver but all the fire control parts are there.

I just lucked into them. That and having money at the time. Ol' 71 came from oldguns.net

Would Stretch be able to shoot in the matches with a trapdoor?
