Muzzle-Cover 'jungle'

Original U.S. Krag 'Muzzle-Cover/Front-Sight Protectors' have become a very expensive item.

There are a number of these accessories for sale, this week, on eBay.
A couple, that I noticed are suspicious.

One is either a bad replica or has been harshly 'reshaped' on a belt-sander.
Another one appears to have its solid steel pin replaced, with a 'roll-pin'.

There are reproduction Krag Muzzle-Covers on the market. These are sold as reproductions and are made with a copper pin.

This is definitely a "Buyer Beware" accessory.
The Krag novice needs to be cautious and study examples before spending the bucks.

Attached photos: A couple of suspect muzzle-covers and a real one.

Good post. I know why (supply and demand) prices have gone up - what surprises me is the speed with which it seemingly happened. Fortunately, I am an old fart and acquired enough of them (but not nearly as many as Whig   ) when the prices were much lower, and before they started being reproduced.

I would not be concerned, about serviceable reproduction Krag accessories, if they were clearly marked as replicas.

It just pisses me off, when fellow Krag enthusiasts, get 'burned' by bogus or altered items.

It is even a bit hazardous to post about fakes, because we may be facilitating the production of more convincing FAKES.

Not everyone, who reads our stuff, has scruples.
