This 1890's photo is very reminiscent of Springfield Armory photographs of stock-making department workers.

The Kongsberg Factory website put a caption on this 'busy' photo, which I have posted on the KCA, before:

"Weaponry course for officers in the infantry and medical services around 1897, in connection with the introduction of the Krag-Jorgensen gun.
The photograph was taken in a civil hall in an unknown location.
The Krag-Jorgensen gun was used as the main weapon for the Norwegian Armed Forces from 1894 until 1940".

An ordinary young man could have had a far worse job. How many stocks, 1894 to the end of production. I don't remember when that was.
