The Amoskeag Auction starting tomorrow has an 1899 (?) Krag carbine with what is a seriously low expected value. Check it out ASAP. Lot 1405.

Also look for a Krag Cadet Rifle bayonet.
And another undervalued 1898 Carbine. Lot 1545. And another Lot 2299. And Lot 2389. All are reported to have C-marked rear sights.
Lot 2399 is a GPR with a cut-down stock. Price is too high.
Lot 2412 looks like it might be a school rifle. Price is right if you want one.
Lot 3125 is a Krag bayonet, no scabbard.

Re: Amoskeag Auction
Very true, low bids.
Carbines SN: 1405 AND 1545 I currently have the high bids for. I'm not bidding real high because I don't need to add more regular carbines to my collection but I don't like to see apparent good ones go for too low money. I do suspect they will be bid much higher by onsite bidders. I like those carbine rear sights I see!

Re: Amoskeag Auction
1545 is not an 1898 (s/n 279xxx) - can't see some of the higher lot numbers?
126471 could be real. (126323, 126370, 126417, 126775 supposedly are)

Re: Amoskeag Auction
Yea, I didn't think it was an 1898 but for the low bid, I'll take another Model 1899 carbine with a correct rear sight!
If I get one cheap, maybe I'll sell it to Paul (at no profit!) to get him to join the Krag carbine club. He's needed one for a loooong time!!

There are two auction sites. For the higher numbered items (2000+), you have to go to the timed auction. You have to go back to the auction home page and click on the timed auction symbol.
Re: Amoskeag Auction
I saw the 1898/1899 carbine, but I was concerned that it had no inspection cartouche on the stock. I have seen listings that have stated that 1898 carbines converted to 1899 stock/rear sight would not have the cartouche. Is that correct?
Should have mentioned I'm referencing the Lot 1405 carbine, s/n 126471.
An 1896 carbine (lot 75, s/n 31166) was sold earlier today by Milestone auctions. $900 for what looked like a complete original.

mattau,
The one you referenced above:
"An 1896 carbine (lot 75, s/n 31166) was sold earlier today by Milestone auctions. $900 for what looked like a complete original."
I had a low bid on also but didn't want to pay much and chase after it. Around $1,200 after added costs. I was interested in this one especially, not only because it is a great early Model 1896 Krag carbine with the sling and ring and correct carbine rear sight, but because I have the same authentic Model 1896 carbine serial number 31110, only 56 numbers lower than this one above. I thought it would be neat to own two similar ones, still in authentic military configuration, so close together!
Alas, someone else can enjoy owning this Krag treasure.

Whig, sorry you couldn't make the buy. I know what you mean about the sale costs adding up. I was looking
at another gun and was certain I would not have enough for both. Well, there's always the next auction

Re: Amoskeag Auction
The two Model 1899 carbines I had low bids on sold for over 3X my bid!! $2,000 for a Model 1899 carbine. They were nice but nothing special other than all correct.
Wow! Glad I have what I need. Can't afford this market anymore. Time to sell some, I guess...
