This stock is on a 1903 dated serial number Krag Rifle and its cartouche it’s so worn down It’s hard for me to tell if it’s 1900 or 1903. The last two numbers are definitely different in their orientation and size which leads me to believe it’s a 3.

What type of rear side is this on this rifle? Is this the 1901 rear site?

Too fuzzy to tell, the wood could be worn, sanded, or scraped?

Your rifles serial number definitely falls into 1903's production range (see attached production chart).

The rear sight is the model 1902 with the flip up sheet metal peep.

This is what the stock cartouch is supposed to look like. The picture is from my rifle.

ETA: this is the 1901 sight from my rifle.

I think I would call the last number a 3.

Thank you for the picture of what the 1903 should look like. I zoomed in a little bit more in this picture and looking at the orientation of the 0 and then the last number to its right, I’m confident it actually is a 3 because as on your picture, the 3 is slightly canted to the right more than the vertical orientation of the 0 to its left.
Thanks!

Finally got the rifle and was able to wipe stock down with a cloth and this either says 1890  or more likely 1900.
So I have a 1903 receiver with the 1902 rear site in a 1900 dated stock.
