Alaskan KCA member, 'MooseNugget', shared an interesting publication from the past.
In October, 1894, "Scientific American" published a supplement that illustrated and described the new U.S. Magazine Rifle.
The bulk of the text described how the rifle functioned, (in unofficial terms and nomenclature).
The drawings by H.W. Bennett are quite beautiful.
This article was new information to me.
It predates the often re-printed 1899 Scientific American series, on production of the Krag-Jorgensen rifle at Springfield Armory, by almost five years.
