Krags at the CMP

Post by Tarheel »

I see where they are releasing these for $1,350 plus S&H. There is a YouTube video about these.

Almost all of the ones we have seen from the CMP sales have not been worth what they have sold for. They hyped them up, lots of people have never seen a Krag before, they can take them out and shoot them, if they can find ammo, and it is a great mil surp to add to your collection, regardless of real condition. The guns they sell are fixed, checked and are safe to shoot with appropriate ammunition. There are better condition ones available, if you search some, for the same or less money.

Good for CMP to do the work, though, and get more Krags into collector's hands. I have bought rom them and support what they do. I would love to have access to their supply of parts!

You can also get them at the CMP North, South and Talladega stores too. I inspected several at the North store during last years National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry. They were for the most part in decent shape. However, they were definitely NOT in a collector condition. All were priced above what I would have valued them at, and some showed signs of some degree of alteration, including a couple that were actually cut down from 30 inch to 26 inch barrel length. I agree that for some who don't have a Krag, it's a good chance to own one... and every one I looked at would function well. They were just a tad rough for the price they were asking!

The picture was taken at the CMP North Store last year...

Did you check the serials of the 26" ones? They may well have been hacked "parade" rifles, but they ALSO could have been BoOFs, going for a ridiculously low price.

To the group - if you have (or run across) a 26" barrel rifle with 1902 cartouche, proper crown and sight base, and a number between 385-389k, you REALLY should check it out! Sleepers still exist, even today.
