Where to find Type 4 Front Sight Blade

I recently bought a late (489,000 serial) Model 1898 - but it’s missing the front sight blade. Looking for suggestions on where to find the right blade and pin (the second one being harder, I think).

Your Krag serial number is very high. Can you take a picture of the receiver so I can see the serial number? It may actually be 439,000 and not 489,000. You may have a legit very late Krag. I just want to check.

It’s definitely 482,000 - and outside then”recognized” range.

My other US Krag is about 2,000 from the first serial…so they bookend the production!

I redid your picture of your receiver. Thanks for the link. Enlarged, look at the arrow area of the number. It is open. This is a "3", most likely. Very, very common and debated issue. Deeply struck "3"s on Krags often look like "8"s. Compare to the "8" in the Model "1898" strike. I believe that your Krag is serial number 432,494.

Or at least 432496

However, I disagree - I see that as an "8". To my eyes, the horizontal bar goes all the way across and shows no sign of trying to form serifs. FWIW it is in the "large" font, as is my 482440. Never tracked that feature scientifically, but there is quite a variance in number size over the years.

I do see characteristics of an "8" but, when I enlarge this number, there is an opening on the left side where a "3" would show. If there's damage to the number or die that struck it, OK, but there's what appears to be an opening there in op's receiver picture. I'd need to examine the receiver in hand to make sure. But, call it whatever, I have seen lots of these "3"s that many have called an "8" before. Probably why the SRS records have 2 800,000s listed for Krag serials also.
