Hi! Been awhile since I last visited. I have an very nice unaltered 1898 infantry model, cartouche date is 1900, s/n 270885. It is one of those produced when there was a shortage of the correct windage adjustable rear sights, so they used an earlier non-adjustable sight. Is it possible to change this to an
adjustable style that would use the same mounting pattern, ie, screw spread? And if so, would the wood need to be altered (which would kill the idea of obtaining an adjustable sight as I would absolutely NOT alter the wood on an unmolested rifle). I would appreciate any insights you may have. Thank you!

All U.S. Krag barrels, (rifle and carbine), have the same rear-sight hole position, in relationship to the barrel breech.

All U.S. Krag rear-sights have the same hole spacing and will mount on all Krag barrels, but in slightly different positions.

Krag handguards are sight-specific and have different 'sight-openings'. The handguard models don't interchange.
They only work with certain sights.

Attached is a KCA chart that shows the handguards that fit the various rifle and carbine sights.

(Your instincts are solid. It is a 'Cardinal Sin' to alter a good Krag handguard!
