I do it occasionally to test a Krag's trigger-pull, but, it is not a good practice (and I have spare parts).
If I was doing it frequently, as part of 'Marksmanship Practice', I would use easily identified 'dummy rounds', with something in the primer-pocket to cushion the striker-blow.
