Hello Neil,
That is not true! Some M'98 and M'96 carbines were arsonal refitted to M'99 specs which could give that impression. They look alike and are all carbines (if all other criteria are met) but are diffrent phases in the evaloution of the Krag.

Brophy doesn't list serial numbers (unless I missed a chapter) Mallory's book has the list. That is the one you want.

We will need more info than that to help you! What is the barrel length? Is the front sight braized into a "dovetail" in the barrel? Is the stock full length military(46" total and about 3 1/8" from the muzzle)? Is there a handguard over the barrel around the rear sight? Describe...
