Disassembly Photo's Available Anywhere ?

Post by DoctorBill »

I used to go to www.surplusrifle.com for pdf files and photos of how to disassemble MilSurp Rifles.

That sight is gone ? Why ?

Anyway...are there links showing how to disassemble Krag Bolts and the Rifle itself - for Dummies ? (Me)

This is my first posting here on this forum.

I just acquired an 1898 Krag-Jorgensen 30-40 30" barrel rifle which had had the stock cut back to a Carbine configuration ($260).
My first Krag !
I reload for all my Rifles and all my cartridges with Cast Bullets. The Bore slugged out to 0.301 to 0.308.

The bore is nice and the rifling is sharp. Some rust pitting on the receiver.

I ordered all the things I need to take this boy back to Military Configuration from Numrich and
e-bay (New Walnut Forearm and Hand Guard).

It is not all Kosher, but I can't afford all the real stock parts - nor can I find them !

This is the site I've always used. It worked as recently as late last week. Perhaps they are down for maintenance?

I finally got everything apart and got all the rust off with steel wool, Q-Tips and
Hoppie's No. 9.

Took several hours - in front of the TV watching "Dean Spanley" on the Stars Channel.

My fingers are sore, but its looking better now.

There IS a cached (9-8-11) version of the main site available on Google, but the Krag link will not open. That is a pretty big operation; I suspect they're just working on something, and will be back up soon.

I couldn't get Google to cough up any info, but I found a web archive, the waybackmachine, that has a lot of the information from this site saved here: http://web.archive.org/web/20100113112315/http://surplusrifle.com/uskragrifle/ammunition.asp I was able to download the rifle and bolt assembly and disassembly pdfs from there, with the pics. Rumors on the web make it appear that the original site, surplusrifle.com, which was great, has been sold and is now out of action, who knows for how long. Good luck! Flash

edit: This link may work better: http://web.archive.org/web/20100110123948/http://www.surplusrifle.com/uskragrifle/index.asp

2nd edit: OK, third times the charm: http://web.archive.org/web/20100110123948/http://www.surplusrifle.com/uskragrifle/index.asp

I do not know why I did not think of it before when it was first mentioned, but it was a downloadable PDF file and I downloaded it. So I got it and I guess I would be able to e-mail it if someone wanted it.

I really depend on it myself. Just let me know.

mjanway, I would love to have a copy. But instead of emailing it to everyone who asks, can you reply again to this thread, with the PDF as an attachment to your reply? That way others can download it when they please. I am not sure if attaching a PDF in this forum will work or not.
