Webbb01:

A two part answer:

(1) The rifle is known among Krag collectors as a Model 1892/96. About the first 23500+/- Krags were called Model 1892. They were actually built at the government's Springfield armory in late 1894 and during 1895. Most were converted (read updated) to the 1896 configuration by the Army. The few Krags still truely in 1892 configuration are few and expensive. The subject photo shows an 1892/96 Krag in good external condition. The clean 1895 cartouse stamped in the stock is nice. This is not a rare rifle but it looks to be on the high side of condition. If it has a good bore and shoots well it would be very collectable.

(2) It is way over priced in the current market. Live auction prices for a run of the mill 1982/96 Krag are $600 - 800. If it is really a gem it would fetch $1000.

Keep up the Fire.

Boy, I'll say it's overpriced! Paid $615 for mine. There is another on the same website with a lot more realistic price - $875. I like my 1892/96 (probably the closest I'll ever get to an 1892) as most of them saw some service during the Spanish-American War and after.
