The Winds of November ..... no time for a ship to be on the Great Lakes!

Harbor mouth at Grand Haven, Michigan, a few days ago, the Break-Water is awash.

It would not surprise me if some Fresh-Water Surfer's were out there in their 'wet-suits'.

Surfing near the building and the pier could cause a major loss of teeth, sure looks violent.

The 'Light House' is on a Break-Water that protects the channel into Grand Haven's Harbor and Coast Guard Station.

The 'Cat-Walk' is mounted, on the top of the Break Water, to provide access in severe weather.

An interesting story that I discovered, while doing family genealogy, involves a cousin of my great-grandmother's, in the 1880's:

"Sea Star" Albert Sibilsky was a Captain and part-owner of a Great Lakes sailing schooner, named the "Sea Star".
During a violent storm on Lake Michigan, the boat and crew were approaching their home port of Ahnapee, (now named Algoma, Wisconsin).
They were driven by the storm and quickly running out of 'sea room'. The channel markers were not visible and the waves were
crashing over the break-water.

Sibilsky, at the wheel, timed things perfectly. His boat rode a swell, clearing the break-water, landing softly in the sheltered harbor.
