Re: Front sight pin
Pin should be slightly less than 1/16 diameter (0.060" I believe) however many have been ramrodded with an unpolished 1/16 punch so 0.0625 or more may be necessary. I prefer using mild spring steel to fabricate my pins so I use hairpin cotters available at the local hardware store. Historically...

Barrel Asterisk at 6 O'Clock?
<r>1902 Rifle No. 393120 - Has asterisk stamp on barrel just ahead of the receiver at 6 O'clock in addition to the firing proof. Over the years, I've seen tons of inspector's marks on the receiver, receiver parts, bolt, etc. however not typically on the barrel. Any ideas?<IMG src="https://kragcollec...

Re: Original Rifle Cost 1898-1903
Finally got a copy of Mallory's book. Page 98 says the original cost of rifle manufacture was $19.75. Per some inflation/interest calulators I found on the web: What cost $19.75 in 1898 would cost $537.76 in 2012. Now if you had saved $19.75 in 1898 (and picked a bank that never failed), at an inter...

Re: Krag bolt problem- please help
Your best bet is to try another bolt. If this is not an option, verify your bolt is not slightly bent by gauging it with a straight edge all around. I had a Krag that was apparently dropped on its topside when the bolt was fully extended. The "bend" could be inperceptible to the naked eye ...

Re: missing the mag. cutoff on my 98
The shaft of the cutoff when installed and in the on position has a flat on one side that aligns with the wall of the magazine raceway for a flush condition. When installed and in the off position, the flat is rotated into the receiver body and the round side of the shaft enters the magazine raceway...

Re: I've previously owned Krags but,
COAL is as published in the Load Book. I figure the length over 3 is to get the pointier bullets closer to the rifling. With the various types of rifling wear, the original krag barrels will vary in regards to closeness. Haven't yet encountered any resistance when they are chambered and I have used ...
